Project:Deletion policy

When a page is removed, merged or kept.

Deletion is for pages that cannot be fixed. A page that is short, badly written or unsourced but is about a subject with available sources should be tagged, expanded or merged — not deleted.

• the subject has no available reliable sources, so no verifiable article is possible;
• the page is promotional in a way that would require rewriting from nothing;
• the page duplicates an existing article and has no independent content to merge;
• the page is a hoax, or reproduces material from elsewhere.

A nomination is opened on the page's talk page with a rationale referencing the applicable policy, and is advertised in the deletion category. Discussion runs for at least seven days. Outcomes are keep, merge, redirect, delete, or no consensus (which defaults to keep). Closure is a judgement on the strength of the arguments, not a vote count.

Most nominations of supplier articles end in a merge rather than a deletion, because the underlying facts are usually verifiable even when they do not sustain a standalone article. Merging preserves the sourcing and the history; deletion discards both.
