The chemistry working group covers how a peptide is made: solid-phase assembly, protecting-group schemes, cleavage, purification and isolation, and the impurity families each stage generates.
Scope
Peptide synthesis and its variants; protecting groups and coupling reagents; resin cleavage; preparative chromatography and lyophilisation; counterions and residual solvents; the general articles on peptides and nomenclature.
Why this group exists separately
Synthesis articles are written for a reader who arrived from a certificate rather than from a chemistry course. The group's convention is that every process description ends by saying what the process leaves behind, because the impurity profile is the part a reader can actually observe.
Process detail that has no analytical consequence — reagent brands, equipment, scheduling — is out of scope. Process detail that explains an impurity is in scope however technical it is.
Current priorities
- Complete the coupling-reagent and liquid-phase articles, currently linked as red links from several places.
- Give each characteristic side reaction a named impurity and, where possible, a mass shift.
- Keep the yield arithmetic in one place and link to it rather than repeating it.
- Check every molecular formula and molar mass against a primary source, jointly with the pharmacology group.
