Portal:Laboratory medicine
Biomarkers, panels and what they do and do not show
Introduction
Metabolic treatment is monitored through a small set of laboratory measurements, most of which are more limited than their popularity suggests. This portal covers the individual markers, the panels they are ordered in, and the interpretation problems that recur — reference-interval variation between laboratories, assay dependence, and the difference between a marker that tracks a disease and one that causes it.

Things you can do
- State the assay method alongside every reference interval given.
- Add the pre-analytical requirements (fasting, tube type) to each marker article.
